Fauquier County Department of Agricultural Development

About Us

The Department of Agricultural (Ag) Development promotes the agricultural industry within Fauquier County, increases the economic viability of farming, and advises the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors on matters affecting the agricultural economy and its development. The department also provides promotion and marketing assistance to agricultural producers, connects farmers with markets, helps establish farmer’s markets, and explores opportunities for sales beyond the county. In partnership with other government offices and private organizations, the department supports farmland preservation, natural resources conservation, and lifelong agricultural learning.

Congratulations to Ben Smith from Cool Lawn Farm!

Congratulations to Fauquier County’s own Ben Smith! We are excited to congratulate Ben Smith of Cool Lawn Farm on being named the 2026 Farmer Communicator of the Year by the National Milk Producers Federation!
Ben is a fifth-generation dairy farmer right here in Fauquier County, and many of you may recognize Cool Lawn Farm from our Fall Farm Tour. Milk from the farm also makes its way to another local favorite —Moo-Thru, operated by Ben’s sister, Taylor!
Ben received this national recognition for his work sharing the story of modern dairy farming with consumers, policymakers, fellow farmers, and industry leaders. From animal care and milk quality to sustainability, farm succession, and the future of dairy farming, Ben has helped give agriculture a strong and authentic voice.
We’re especially proud to see a Fauquier County farmer recognized on the national stage for something our local agricultural community does so well — telling the story of farming and helping people better understand where their food comes from.
Congratulations, Ben! This recognition is very well deserved, and we’re proud to have you representing Fauquier County agriculture!

St. Leonards Farm earned 1st Place at State Fair- 3 years in a row!

THREE YEARS. THREE 1ST PLACE WINS!
Congratulations to Davis Camalier of St. Leonards Farm for earning 1st Place at the State Fair of Virginia for his hay in 2024, 2025 AND 2026!
Three consecutive first-place finishes is quite an accomplishment and a great example of the quality agricultural products being produced right here in Fauquier County!!!
And here’s the good news — St. Leonard’s Farm still has hay available for sale!

What a great day! We want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the 2026 Fauquier County Fall Farm Tour a success!

First and foremost, thank you to our participating farms for opening your gates and welcoming visitors for the day. We know how much time and work goes into preparing for the Farm Tour, while still keeping up with the everyday work of running your farms and businesses.

Thank you for sharing your farms, animals, agricultural operations, equine activities, products, and stories with our visitors. The Farm Tour simply wouldn’t be possible without you!

And to everyone who came out and spent the day exploring Fauquier County — thank you for supporting our local farms and agricultural community! We hope you discovered a few new places, learned something along the way, and most importantly, had a great time!
