Fauquier County Department of Agricultural Development

About Us

The Department of Agricultural (Ag) Development promotes the agricultural industry within Fauquier County, increases the economic viability of farming, and advises the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors on matters affecting the agricultural economy and its development. The department also provides promotion and marketing assistance to agricultural producers, connects farmers with markets, helps establish farmer’s markets, and explores opportunities for sales beyond the county. In partnership with other government offices and private organizations, the department supports farmland preservation, natural resources conservation, and lifelong agricultural learning.

Annual Fall Farm Tour Coming Soon!

 

Mark your calendars for the 2026 Fauquier County Fall Farm Tour on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM!

Join us for one of Fauquier County’s favorite annual agritourism events as eight local farms open their gates to the public for a day of learning, exploration, and family fun.

The Fall Farm Tour is a unique opportunity to experience agriculture firsthand while learning about the important role farming plays in our community. Each participating farm offers its own unique experience, which may include:

  • Farm tours
  • Demonstrations of daily farm operations
  • Opportunities to meet farmers and learn about animal care
  • Educational exhibits and hands-on activities
  • Locally grown and made products for sale
  • Food vendors and other special attractions at select farms

Whether you’re interested in livestock, crops, equine operations, specialty products, or simply looking for a fun day in the countryside, the Fauquier County Fall Farm Tour offers something for all ages.

Admission is Free (unless stated otherwise) and visitors are welcome to explore one farm or spend the day visiting all eight locations.

Land for lease at Airlie!

Comprising approximately 25 acres, this agricultural area has received significant investment by ownership, including GAP certification and a continuous produce harvest. The property is served by on-site well water and established irrigation infrastructure. Given its immediate proximity to the Airlie Hotel and Conference Center, this offering may be particularly well-suited for a pick-your-own operator with potential dedicated parking.

Improvements include a biosecurity fence, a ~2,000 sf solar barn with a restroom, office space, and storage, along with a greenhouse and apiary.

They also have approximately 65 acres of open pasture are available for livestock operations, supported by established agricultural infrastructure. The site is currently used for cattle and pig production and is well suited for continued livestock use, rotational grazing, or other pasture-based agricultural activities. Existing equipment is on site and may be available for sale or license, offering a unique opportunity for operators to utilize and improve on the in-place infrastructure.

Common Area Improvements include barn with partial HVAC, featuring office space, restrooms, multiple garage bays, walk-in coolers, and storage (potential for shared use). Additional improvements include an approximately 0.5-acre gravel parking and utility area.
