Fauquier County Department of Agricultural Development

About Us

The Department of Agricultural (Ag) Development promotes the agricultural industry within Fauquier County, increases the economic viability of farming, and advises the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors on matters affecting the agricultural economy and its development. The department also provides promotion and marketing assistance to agricultural producers, connects farmers with markets, helps establish farmer’s markets, and explores opportunities for sales beyond the county. In partnership with other government offices and private organizations, the department supports farmland preservation, natural resources conservation, and lifelong agricultural learning.

Ag Production Mini Grants Available Soon!

Fauquier County Ag Development is happy to announce we will be accepting applications for our Ag Production Mini Grant starting Dec. 5th through Jan. 5th from Fauquier County Farmers! If your application is approved, you could receive up to $5,000 in Matching Reimbursements. This Grant can be used for any of the following: 

  • Purchasing Ag Related Tools
  • Farm Implements
  • Farm Infrastructure
  • Certification Producing Ag Education Programs
  • Agricultural Skill Development Classes

1. Farm Manager/Caretaker Full Time
Small farm in Hume, VA (Fauquier County) with cows and horses. We are looking for a Full Time Farm Manager/Care Taker. Would be willing to hire a couple – would have work for both. Housing on property is available if needed. Must be able to pass a background check.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lawn care: mowing, weed-eating, and general grounds upkeep
• Clearing brush
• Daily care for horses and cows
• Fence installation and repair
• General site maintenance and support as needed
• Basic carpentry and repair projects
What They Offer:
• Annual Salary 60,000-90,000 per year with health and dental benefits
• Paid sick and vacation time
• An outdoor work environment with varied tasks
Requirements
• Experience with landscaping tools, equipment and tractors
• Basic carpentry skills
• Experience with horses and cows
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
• Reliable transportation
2. Farm hand Part time
Looking for a part time farm hand to help with horses and cows on small farm in Hume, VA (Fauquier County)
Will be responsible to handle daily feeding, watering, cleaning stalls/paddocks, grooming, blanketing, turning horses out and back in the barn.
Possible riding and exercising of horses as well if interested and experienced. Occasional help with the cows
Flexible hours, must be self-motivated and have reliable transportation. $20-$25 per hour
